LACMTA (Metro) – Los Angeles

Metro Rail is an urban rail system serving Los Angeles County, California. It consists of six lines, including two rapid transit subway lines (the Red and Purple lines) and four light rail lines (the Blue, Green, Gold and Expo lines) serving 93 stations. It connects with the Metro Liner bus rapid transit system (the Orange Line and Silver Line) and also with the Metrolink commuter rail system. Metro Rail, which has an average daily weekday ridership of 362,904 is owned and operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and started service in 1990. It has been extended significantly since that time and several further extensions are either in the works or being considered.

LACMTA awarded a contract to a TransitVUE® systems integrator to replace their existing and outdated VMS with a new passenger information capable of audio and visual messaging on high-resolution LCD monitors and full color LED displays installed at station entrances, mezzanines, platform, and non-public areas. The capabilities needed to include:

  • Train arrival time and track number, which is automatically updated based on real-time train performance information
  • Train departure time and track number
  • Information on train route and final destination
  • Information on Service Interruptions or Delays
  • Notification if approaching train is not in service
  • Public Service Announcements
  • Warning, prohibitive and general safety messages in variable formats
  • Emergency Instruction and Evacuation Procedures
  • Day, Date and Time synchronized to a master clock
  • Other pre-recorded messages to be determined by the agency
  • Messages may be pre-recorded and/or ad-hoc.

TransitVUE® provided our TPIS solution, which included 350 LCD displays and full color LED displays 166, content media players, content management server and the TransitVUE® Vantage management software.

Foothill Authority

The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority is an independent transportation planning, design and construction agency created in 1998. The agency was created to for the design, contracting and construction of the Pasadena Gold Line in two segments, from Pasadena to Azusa and Glendora to Montclair.

The Foothill Authority awarded a contract to a TransitVUE® systems integrator to design and build a new passenger information system capable of interfacing to Metro’s TPIS by providing audio and visual messaging on high-resolution LCD monitors and single color LED displays installed at station entrances, mezzanines, platform, and non-public areas. The capabilities were the same as Metro’s.

TransitVUE® provided our TPIS solution, which included LCD displays were 24 and single color LED displays 48, content media players, and the TransitVUE® Vantage management software.

Exposition Metro Line Construction Authority

The Exposition Metro Line Construction Authority is an independent transportation planning, design and construction agency. The Authority was created for the purpose of awarding and overseeing final design and construction contracts for completion of the 15.2 mile, $2.5 billion Exposition Light Rail Line from Downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica.

The Exposition Metro Line Construction Authority awarded a contract to a TransitVUE® systems integrator to design and build a new passenger information system capable of interfacing to Metro’s TPIS by providing audio and visual messaging on high-resolution LCD monitors and single color LED displays installed at station entrances, mezzanines, platform, and non-public areas. The capabilities were the same as Metro’s.

City of Fresno Area Express Bus Rapid Transit

The City of Fresno (FAX) is a city wide transit system offering 16 fixed-route bus lines and Handy Ride Paratransit Service, all designed to help passengers get wherever they want to go. FAX services the greater Fresno Metropolitan Area with a modern clean and green fleet of over 100 buses. Fresno Area Express is operated by the City of Fresno as a public service to all the citizens and visitors of Fresno.

FAX awarded a contract to a TransitVUE® systems integrator to design and build a passenger information system for their new BRT line, capable of displaying audio and visual messaging on high definition full color LED displays installed at bus stops along the route and transit centers. The capabilities needed to include:

  • Bus arrival time, which is automatically updated based on real-time or scheduled information
  • Bus departure time
  • Information on bus route and final destination
  • Information on Service Interruptions or Delays
  • Notification if an approaching bus is not in service
  • Public Service Announcements
  • Warning, prohibitive and general safety messages in variable formats
  • Preparing on bus arrival to have their fare ready
  • Other pre-recorded messages to be determined by FAX
  • Messages may be pre-recorded and/or ad-hoc

TransitVUE® provided our TPIS solution, which included 50 double sided bus stop style full color LED displays, 5 double sided concourse style full color LED displays, content media players, and the TransitVUE® Professional web based management software.
